Arabic Level 2 - Verbs & Short Written Texts

Synopsis: A post beginner course focusing on the understanding of written Arabic compositions

Text: Based on "Modern Literary Arabic" by David Cowan with supplementary material drawn from:

Qur’an and Hadith
Stories of the Prophets by Shaykh Abul Hassan Ali Nadwi
Al-Arabiyyah Al-Nashaiyyah

Students are strongly recommended to obtain a copy of the main text.

Detailed Description: Structured lessons will cover the use of the different verb tenses and selected forms before progressing onto short stories. Students will be expected to translate simple written works and compose their own small pieces.

Material to be covered will include:

Past, present, future and imperative verb tenses
Passive verb forms
Derivatives of verbs (verbal noun, passive & active participles, noun of instrument, noun of time & place)
Verb forms 2, 3 and 4
Translating & understanding Arabic compositions – stories, litanies and sacred texts
Composition of elementary written pieces

Entry requirements: Completion of WLSIS Arabic Level 1, or equivalent knowledge; see Arabic Level 1 course description for details or email.

Registration Fee: £100 per term, 50% discount for WLSIS Student Pass holders.
